The Ariege Midi Pyrenees mountains and valleys offer a wide variety of walking, from the rugged remote high peaks to gentle walks around lakes.  There is something for everyone; stunning scenery, abundant wildlife, refuges, well marked paths and always 'far from the madding crowds'!

I have lived and walked in the Ariege Pyrenees for 4 years. I have extensive knowledge of the best routes for all ages and abilities, where to observe amazing and varied Pyrenees wildlife and how to get the most out of walking in this beautiful, unspoilt, spectacular area.  Please contact me for ideas, advice and links to professional guides.  Please see our 'case file' walks listed at the top of the page.

Just one hour south of Toulouse, the Ariege Midi Pyrenees and surrounding foothills offer hundreds of miles wonderful, well-marked, quiet walking for all ages, abilities and experience. Rising to 10000 feet, with magnificent scenery, unspoilt beauty, diverse and abundant wildlife, the Ariege Midi Pyrenees Mountains are pyrenees_wildlifethe perfect place to relax and enjoy the great outdoors. This site offers some example routes, holiday advice; the site splits walks into general 'ease of walking' categories (see the links above), taking into account terrain, climb and distance.

After living and walking all year round in theMountain roses at 1300m Pyrenees for the past 4 years, I have a lot of experience of the high mountains, Cathar castle historic walks, lower circular walks,  plus how to use ski lifts and access routes to gain height, or just short, very enjoyable walks around pretty villages nestling in the Pyrenees foothills.  Although a vast unspoilt area, with impressive, rugged high peaks, the Pyrenees mountains are very accessible for all walkers, whatever your level of fitness and experience.  It would take many pages to cover just a few of the walks, so please look at the examples on the links at the top of the page, and please contact me for more specific information and advice to help you plan your trip to the Pyrenees.

News!  There is now a bi-weekly guided walking group in the Ariege Pyrenees run by 2 English qualified mountain leaders, Ruth and Anne.  The walks aim to help you explore the Pyrenees, its flowers, wildlife and history.  Each walk has a different theme and walks vary in both length and ascent.

Please contact Ruth Jenkins (ruth-jenkins@hotmail.com) or myself for more information.
